California Pier Aquariums

The wolf eel at Santa Monica Pier Aquarium was hatched at the Birch Aquarium in San Diego in March of 2011 and next went to Cabrillo Marine Aquarium in San Pedro, where they gave her a good home and got her nice and healthy before sending her to Santa Monica. It's very unusual to have an aquarium fish raised from eggs in captivity. When full grown wolf eels can be over 6 feet long. Being raised in captivity, she likes people and is very curious to see who will be bringing her her next meal.

The beautiful animals and fantastic displays are what draw people to the aquarium. Nearly all animals are native to local waters of the Santa Monica Bay--the sea horses are found off the coast of San Diego. Dedicated to teaching students & visitors about the oceans, marine life, and the environment. Roundhouse Marine Studies Lab and Aquarium fosters and promotes the public study of, and interest in, the oceans, tidelands and beaches of Southern California, the marine life therein, and the impact of human population on that environment.
