Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.-- When visiting Southern California or living in the area, there's one portion of Los Angeles County that is often overlooked, primarily because the Palos Verdes peninsula is an attraction understatement, primarily by design.
While many of L.A.'s city's and regions compete with bigger & better attractions such as Disneyland, Universal Studios, The Getty, Catalina Island, etc., Palos Verdes peninsula is filled with nature centers, beaches, interpretive centers, and an appreciation for natural beauty.
The Point Vicente Interpretive Center in the city of Rancho Palos Verdes is one such attraction that is free, educational, enjoyable, and offers one of the best places to whale watch on the Southern California coast.
The Interpretive Center was built and opened in 1984. Needing renovation, it received a facelift and re-0pened in 2006 with new interior and exterior treatments.
Inside is a state-of-the-art facility with quality display documenting the history of the area, and focusing on whales, as well. Volunteer docents are often on hand to discuss the migrations and point out whales seen offshore.
Be sure to stay and watch the video
about the history of the peninsula if
that film is showing in the small
theater inside the building. It to
explain why you see particular names on
buildings and in places around the area.
