Carlsbad State Beach, also known as Tamarack State Beach, in Carlsbad, California offers one more reason that families especially love to take vacations to the North San Diego County city (Legoland is another reason.)
The beauty of Carlsbad beaches is that locals take on the role as stewards of these sandy shores. Most beaches are within view of a tall industrial looking structure, the generating station, and if you don't see it in sight nearby, you may not be in Carlsbad.
In addition to Carlsbad State Beach there is also South Carlsbad State Beach where you will find both tent camping and RV camping. A portion of the South State Beach is known as Ponto Beach.
For campers, there are several camping options on this coastline. South Carlsbad State Beach, San Elijo State Beach, and San Onofre State Beach all offer camping.
Tamarack is approx. four miles of sand set below a the road, hotels, and homes. Once you descend stairs or drive down into a parking lot, you'll find the beach is mostly a flat, sand beach with pale to tan colored sand.
Because of the nice consistency of the sand, it is popular for not only sunbathing but sports such as sand volleyball, surfing, jogging, and walking.
Getting to Tamarack Beach is as
an easy exit off Interstate 5 (San Diego Freeway 5.)
