2014 Newsletters: What's
Happening Southern California Residents
Friday, February 7, 2014
I'd like to start this Newsletter wishing good thoughts to Maureen Rivers from The Huntington Beach Historical Society.
A Very Happy Birthday to the following people. They are: Costa Mesa Assistant City Manager Rick Francis, Huntington Beach Resident Leai Haney, Santa Barbara Resident David Carlberg, Seal Beach Realtor Amalia Almasy, Huntington Beach Musician Tom Kubis and Laguna Beach Rotary Club Member Beverly Barnes.
This is a note from Huntington Beach Police Chief Robert Handy's Administrative Assistant Karin Reed: On Tuesday, January 28, 2014 a Huntington Beach Police Officer stopped a Black Nissan Sentra in the area of Edinger Avenue and Countess Drive for a routine traffic violation. The driver was found to be unlicensed and both he and his passenger were acting unusually nervous under the circumstances. The officer requested assistance and was joined by a K9 Officer. The officers obtained consent to search the vehicle and found a large tire in the trunk of the vehicle that obviously did not fit the Nissan.
K9 Officer Thomas and his K9 "Bohdy", who is certified in narcotic detection, conducted a K9 sniff of the vehicle. "Bohdy" alerted the officers to the tire and officers ultimately found "bricks" of cocaine hidden inside. Both subjects Antonio Tzampop and Jose Campos of Panorama City were arrested and booked at the city jail for transportation of a controlled substance. Narcotic detectives were notified due to the large amount seized and the way it was packaged. In total, 27 kilos of cocaine were recovered which has a wholesale value of $648,000 and an approximate street value of $1,297,645. To see a photo of Bohdy and the drugs, go to the Police Department's Face Book page. This investigation is continuing and no further information is being released at this time.
