Here Is Some Community Information:
On Saturday April 29th, 2006, I Attended The Shipley
Nature Center Spring Festival. What A Fun Event That
Was. There Was A Dedication Ceremony Where REI Of
Huntington Beach Which Is A Sports Recreation Store
At The Bella Terra Mall Donated Around $10,000
Dollars To The Friends Of Shipley Nature Center.
Also
The Orange County Metropolitan Water District Donated
Around $20,000 Dollars As Well. This Should Help With
The Ongoing Restoration Of The Shipley Nature Center.
Did You Know That More Than 13,000 Students Visit The
Shipley Nature Center Each Year. This Is A Very
Important Part Of Education. Learning About The
Nature Habitats.
On Thursday May 4th, 2006, I Attended The Municipal
City Clerk's Open House At Huntington Beach City
Hall.
This Was In The City Clerk's Office. That Was Also A
Wonderful Event. I Got To Learn The Daily Routine Of
What The Clerk's Office Does For The Community. If
You Need To Get A Passport For A Vacation Or Business
Venture, I Suggest You Go To The City Clerk's Office.
I Want To Thank Our City Clerk Joan Flynn, Her
Assistant City Clerk Robin Lugar, Patricia Albers -
Deputy City Clerk And The Entire Staff For Doing A
Great Job For This City. You're The Best!!!!
On Wedensday May 10th, 2006 At: 7:00PM In The
City Council Chambers At Huntington Beach City Hall -
2000 Main Street, There Is Going To Be A Public
Meeting To Share Your Concerns About A Senior Center
That Is Being Proposed To Be Built In Central Park.
Here's Some Information For Your Review About That:
There Is A Proposal Being Discussed In Huntington
Beach To Build A 45,290 Square Foot Building - With
Parking Lots - On Open And Green Land That Is
Currently A Part Of Central Park. To Accomplish This
Task, The City Council Must Rezone Portions Of
Central Park From It's Current Status Of Medium To
High Intensity. In Other Words, Central Park Would
Get Much Smaller And Much, Much Busier. "Such Use
With A Building Is Considered High Intensity" (City
Of Huntington Beach, Notice Of Public Meeting, Dated
April 24th, 2006).
The Building Is A Proposed Senior Center With An
Estimated Price Tag Of Around $23 Million Dollars.
At Present There Are No Funds Earmarked For This
Project And It Shall Sit Across The Street From The
City's Other Costly Recent Project - The Sports
Complex. That Project Costs Nearly 3 Times It's
Original Estimate, Which Was Not Well Researched And
It Now Cost The City Of Huntington Beach In Excess Of
Around $1 Million Dollars Per Year In An Additional
Debt Load.
Central Park Is A Very Special Part Of The City.
