This is from Huntington Beach Police Chief
Ken Small's Administrative Assistant Karin
Reed. Karin says:
On April 27, 2012, Detective Gary Kim
received the Crime Survivors Above and
Beyond Award. He was honored due to his
efforts in assisting victims of domestic
violence in the community. Detective Kim has
been a police officer for the city of
Huntington Beach since 1995. He has been
assigned to investigate domestic violence
and stalking cases as an investigator for
the past 6 years. He has established himself
as an expert and works in partnership with a
victim advocate to assist victims throughout
the criminal justice process.
Detective Kim routinely goes the extra mile
in assisting victims of domestic violence.
Victims benefit from Detective Kim's actions
because he is pro-active, responsive,
dependable, and trustworthy. At the same
time, he is compassionate and respectful. He
understands the cycle of violence, and the
many reasons why victims stay in dangerous
relationships. He himself has become a
victim of stalking at least three different
times by those he pursued. These suspects
became so frustrated with his tenacious
efforts to bring them to justice that they
turned their obsessive behavior and anger
toward Detective Kim.
Detective Kim's efforts to ensure victims of
domestic violence are protected make him a
worthy recipient of the Crime Survivors
Above and Beyond Award.
