The Honorable Huntington Beach Police Chief
Ken Small's Administrative Assistant Karin
Reed asked me to mention This Item:
Huntington Beach Police Department
Communications Center receives about 130,000
non-emergency phone calls and about 78,000
9-1-1 emergency” phone calls per year from
citizens. Of these calls, police officers
are assigned to about 101,000 calls for
service” per year. These numbers do not
count all the self initiated activity by
police officers such as observations of
criminal and suspicious activity and traffic
enforcement. All together, this is a lot of
activity and data to review. An easy way to
determine what is going on in your
Huntington Beach neighborhood is to follow
the link Online Crime Mapping Data” from
the police department website to
CrimeReports.com. Since 2009, Huntington
Beach Police Department has partnered with
this service to make this public information
easily accessible via your computer or smart
phone application. You can review the police
related activity in your neighborhood with
the filter buttons at the top for date
range” incident layers” and map layers”,
up to 500 incidents at a time. You can also
sign up for email alerts for notification of
incidents in your neighborhood, local school
or other places of interest.
The Huntington Beach Police Department is
accepting applications for Experienced and
Academy Graduate Police Officers and Police
Cadets.
Go to http://www.huntingtonbeachca.gov/government/departments/human_resources/
for more information on the application and
testing process. Or contact Officer Lisa
Gallatin 714-536-5936.
The Huntington Beach Public Works Director
Travis Hopkins answered my question on why
the street sweeper didn't come in The Hope
View Elementary School Neighborhood
Yesterday. He Said:
The street morning sweeping was canceled due
to the weather conditions. The next sweeping
shall be the next regularly scheduled
sweeping day in two weeks. Please remember
Neighbors.

Blessing Of The Waves
Priests, Rabbis, Imams, Ministers and
non-denominational faith leaders will
participate in the fifth annual Blessing of
the Waves” at the iconic Huntington Beach
Pier, October 14, 2012. The inter-religious
prayer service and blessing, hosted by the
Diocese of Orange, brings together
ocean-minded people in spiritual
appreciation for our ocean resource.
In Orange County, there are 42 miles of
coastline along the world's largest body of
water – the Pacific Ocean. "Our regional
environment is shaped and influenced by its
connection to the coast," said the Most Rev.
Tod D. Brown, Bishop of Orange. Blessing of
the Waves is an invitation to recognize the
spiritual significance of our fragile
oceans,” Bishop noted.
Fr. Christian Mondor, OFM, PhD and Vicar
Emeritus at Saints Simon and Jude Parish
(Huntington Beach) has presided over
Blessing of the Waves” since its inception
in 2008. At age 87, Fr. Christian is a
respected surfer, master class swimmer, and
embodies a lifelong appreciation for the
ocean. Our coastline and its diverse
ecosystem are under constant strain and
increased environmental pressures. This
event seeks to remind our community that
protecting the environment is central to
many other faith traditions. I am excited to
join with members of our diverse faith
community here in Huntington Beach to bless
waves, those who ride on them, and the
lifeguards who protect ocean goers,” Fr.
Christian said.
The fifth annual inter-religious event will
feature the Tongan Pacific Islander choir
and local recording artist and emerging
musical talent Summer Watson offering her
own blend of soulful song. Added to the
program this year will be Tim Reid, Jr. &
Friends, a musical ensemble from Seal Beach
- as the Blessing of the Waves again
combines music with prayer and inspirational
fellowship.
Sunday, October 14, 2012 - 9 to 11 am
