Police Department - Communications Bureau
Nationwide EAS Test - FEMA, in coordination
with the Federal Communications Commission
(FCC) will conduct the first nationwide
Emergency Alert System (EAS) Test on
November 9th.
Why a National EAS Test? As part of FEMA's
larger efforts to strengthen our nation's
preparedness and resiliency, FEMA and the
FCC will
conduct the first national-level test of the
EAS on November 9th, 2011 at 11:00 AM
(Pacific) which may last up to three and a
half minutes. Similar to the way local EAS
tests are conducted, the nationwide test
will simultaneously involve television
stations (including digital television,
cable, satellite audio and television
services) and broadcast radio stations
across the U.S. and several U.S. territories
(Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, America
Samoa).
The EAS has never been tested on a national
level before, and conducting this test is an
opportunity to baseline the system and its
capabilities at all levels. While EAS tests
may be temporarily disruptive to radio and
television programming, they are important
to ensure that the EAS is functional. If you
have any questions please call: (714)
960-8811.
Huntington Beach City Clerk Joan Flynn asked
me to mention this item:
This week, Huntington Beach resident Nancy (Gisler)
Alfano (center), the daughter of former
Huntington Beach Mayor Ernest H. Gisler, met
with City Historian Jerry Person and City
Clerk Joan Flynn in order to contribute the
use of photos, newspaper clippings and a
scrapbook from the time period when her
father was mayor (1960 to 1962). The City
Historian is seeking the public's assistance
in sharing photos with historical
significance in order to preserve them for
future generations. Jerry is especially
interested in receiving photos of former
mayors and council members. Photos would be
scanned and returned to the owner in the
same condition received. If you have
historical photos you would like to share
with the public, please contact City
Historian Jerry Person at jperson@hbquik.com

IzmirLB in close cooperation with the East
Long Beach neighborhood associations is
organizing an international music, food,
arts and crafts festival, the Izmir Grove
Rising,” to raise funds to benefit the
creation of the Izmir Grove Friendship
Park,” now under development. Proceeds from
the event will help build the friendship
park.
The all-day festival starts at: 11:00AM
several Long Beach and international bands,
international stage performances by several
sister cities of Long Beach (Ecuador, Kenya,
Russia, Cambodia), folkloric dances from
different countries, fashion show, belly
dance and whirling show, poetry jam, to name
a few.
We will be joined by a number of Long Beach
youth organizations which are doing great
things in our community.
Crafts and gifts from international
exhibitors will be offered.
Participating neighborhood associations will
also have their own booths where they will
inform neighbors and sign up members. These
are Belmont Heights, Alamitos Heights,
Belmont Shore, North Alamitos Bay Area, and
Recreation Park Neighborhood Coalition.
Cambodia Town District will participate with
arts and crafts booths as well as stage
performances.
Of course we will have international
cuisines from the countries of our sister
cities.
So, the festival is rather a COMMUNITY MIXER
where neighbors meet each other, mingle,
network, learn about what is being done by
great non-profit groups while having fun and
contributing to the creation of our
friendship park.
The event is for $8 general admission which
is a donation towards the friendship park
project. Parking is available around the park
and the adjacent Blair Field baseball
stadium.
