Utility Yard Expansion Project Wins Award
The newly renovated City Utility Yard
located near the corner of Huntington Street
and Garfield Avenue, is now an Award
Winning” Utility Yard. The project has just
been recognized by the Southern California
Chapter of the American Public Works
Association to receive the 2011 Project of
the Year award. The project was selected
over many other quality projects in the
Facilities Category. The American Public
Works Association formally presented the
award to Mayor Hansen during the January 17
City Council Meeting.
The project included construction of a new
6,714 square foot Operations Building, an
11,096 square foot Distribution and Meter
Building, a 1,029 square foot expansion to
the existing Water Production Building, and
improved parking layout to accommodate all
personnel. In addition, the existing bulk
material storage area and fluoride tanks
were relocated within the site to provide
better accessibility. The existing
Administration Building also underwent
extensive renovations with exterior and
interior upgrades including new furniture,
appliances and building fixtures. Finally,
