Sunday:
Come to hear Pulitzer Prize Nominee Craig
MacDonald speak about Jessie Benton Fremont,
the woman who inspired the saving of
Yosemite Valley and the Mariposa Grove of
Giant Sequoias at the Sunday April 22, 2012
meeting of the Costa Mesa Historical
Society.
The effort of this unselfish lady and her
friends marked the first time in the world
that a national government set aside scenic
lands for future generations. Yet, she has
never been properly recognized for her
unbelievable role in making this happen.
You'll find out all about this woman and how
the speaker is trying to get her recognized.
You can even help with emails and letters.
Without the Yosemite Grant (1864), it would
have been much more difficult, if not
impossible, for John Muir and friends to
help create Yosemite National Park (1890).
This is a story you will never forget!
The speaker, a member of Phi Alpha Theta,
the national history honor society, is the
author of 18 books on the West. He'll
autograph his latest on Yosemite's Unsung
Hero at the meeting. To learn more about
Craig go to www.goldrushglimpses.com .
So bring a friend and learn about one of our
early green leaders in the Golden State!
Doors open at 2:00, program at 2:30. Free
admission and refreshments. We are located
at 1870 Anaheim Ave. northwest corner of the
Lions Park complex. For further information
call (949) 631-5918, visit
www.costamesahistory.org or go to facebook/costa
mesa historical society.
