What's the NUMBER ONE reason people travel to San Diego's La Jolla community on vacations? Beaches! You can't escape them. The treasured coastline has world fame for its beauty, tree-lined palms, golf course and gliderport both located on cliffs above the sea, and the easily accessible beaches for all to enjoy.
Though attention is often drawn to the famed Black's Beach, a somewhat secluded beach because of the scarcity of sand and tides that often prohibit access, most La Jolla beaches are quite easy to land on with your feet first as you pick your beach activity according to preference.
Ranging from rocky cliffs and coves to sand stretches where you can plop down a beach chair and kick off your flip flops, this is Southern California living at its finest.
Wind N Sea is one of the town's most famous surfing beaches, and the surfing club usually maintains a cabana, palapa or thatched tent that you'll see when veering along the street that meets up with the sea.
Expect to see Classic California lived out on the beaches of La Jolla. On many trips we've watched two-toned woodie cars stop and seen drivers unpack the surfboards with Beach Boys songs blaring on the radio. It's unbelievable -- almost. It's really just a slice of Southern California beach living at its finest.
When you go, there are plenty of great hotels in La Jolla or nearby beaches in San Diego where you can stay. Restaurants, several blocks of shopping near the ocean, great wedding and events facilities venues, and beach activities such as surfing contests make La Jolla a feel good town that you would love to stick around and spend more time exploring. With time and money, you can do that!
