Limited free street parking in the residential areas above the beach is generally free where there are not meters, while the state beach parking lot charges a fee. The popular beach was once known for surfing--until a jetty in the Newport Harbor was built.
Today beach activities include sunbathing, volleyball, swimming, rock climbing, sight-seeing, and tidepool exploring. The tidepools at the beach are part of a Marine Protected Area and as such, visitors aren't allowed to touch or remove anything from them.
