Newport Beach Beaches: Newport Beach, California peninsula beaches are numbered according to the street they correspond to that crosses them.

Starting around 60th Street on the north end of the city to around 6th Street where Balboa Blvd transitions from West to East near the branch library, you'll see corresponding lifeguard towers that reflect the street numbers popularly used for beaches to signify where you are. It is a great measurement tool for those who take long beach strolls and have no concept of where their car is parked. Just be sure to pay attention to the lifeguard tower as you enter your beach visit so you can find your way back out again, as many beaches and sands dip down from street view, not providing useful cues as to where you are.

This is especially true on the north or west end of the beaches in residential neighborhoods. As you get close to Newport Beach's two piers or wander the strand or beach between them, you can use the icons as markers for distance and direction.
