Santa Monica is L.A.'s favorite beach destination. Tourists who fly into Los Angeles International Airport try to book hotel rooms in Santa Monica because they've heard so much about it.
Lifeguard services at Santa Monica State Beach are provided by the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Towers 2-16 are located north of the Pier; towers 17 - 29 are located south of the Pier.
From the pier amusement that includes an historic carousel and a solar powered Ferris wheel, to the beach filled with sunbathers, it's just a stroll across the road to shopping and dining at Third Street Promenade, the outdoor plaza where you'll find street artists, fountains, outdoor kiosks and often see a celebrity trying to be in cognito.
