Where cliffs meet the sea is effectively where Torrance beach ends its pleasant and even romantic run. Torrance homes sit on hilltops above the coast which is not too accessible in many areas that drop hundreds of feet into the ocean. Down at Torrance Beach, there are swings for kids to play on, there's sand, a strand connecting the beach to Redondo and the entire South Bay beaches (Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach, Venice Beach, Marina del Rey and Santa Monica.)
Torrance Beach is a hidden gem among L.A. beaches. In fact SeeCalifornia.com publisher, Debbie Stock, previously created and owned Californiabeaches.com, and though she professed to be a specialist in all things California beach, it took a reader to contact her and ask, "Why is Torrance Beach missing from your list of California beaches?"
From that moment she began researching this lesser known and hardly publicized L.A. beach and what she found upon visiting was just incredible.
Torrance Beach is at the bottom of a small hill. You can access it via a ramp or set of stairs. There's some free and some meter parking - 300 spaces total. One of Torrance's favorite city parks that is actually within Redondo Beach city bounds is on the top of the overlook. Miramar Park at 201 Paseo de la Playa features a scenic overview which is used as a wedding ceremony site for small weddings, reservations required.
40 acres of beach include showers, beach wheelchairs, and volleyball nets as some amenities. Torrance Beach is great for swimming, fishing, scuba and skin diving, and surfing.
Lifeguard service is prominent in Torrance Beach during the summer months. There are public restrooms open daily and in the summer a snack kiosk-concession opens, selling sodas, snacks and all the basics.
Did you know? The region shared by Torrance and Redondo Beach is often called RAT Beach (Right After Torrance Beach or Redondo and Torrance Beach).
