If you live in beautiful Crestline, a Southern California vacation destination and permanent home to those geared for mountain life, your days may be filled with all things relating to your local environs. Up in the San Bernardino mountains some 4,613' with Lake Gregory right in the middle of town, locals concern themselves with making a living, sending the kids to school and the weather, of course. The area gets snow in the winter and being in the San Bernardino National Forest, must always be prepared for evacuations should a forest fire occur. It doesn't happen often but when it does, the results can be catastrophic in dry years.
Locals love the mountain life and experience of seasons. Just over 90 minutes by car they have the luxury of grabbing sunny Southern California beach lifestyle, though they have their very own beaches along the shoreline of the lake.
It's a pretty place and the air is so fragrant with pine scent--many wouldn't change places with their beach counterparts and are quite happy living up in the forests filled with trails for hiking, campgrounds for camping, lakes for fishing, ski runs for skiing, and mountain biking, to name a few great sports.
The heart of the community is Crestline Chamber of Commerce (crestlinechamber.net), an organization that performs valuable services for residents through its business programs and community events. Its community calendar is the source to go to for happenings in the community. Several highlights sponsored by Crestline Chamber of Commerce include Jamboree Days on the 4th of July week. Other community events that take place on the lake are the Rubber Duck Derby usually in April and the Dragon Boat Races generally in August each year. There's also Movie in the Park one Wednesday each month in May through August, and additional local events for seniors, youth and adults.
Crestline community is served by the Rim of the World Unified School District and there is a nice library, Crestline Branch Library of San Bernardino County next to Goodwin's Market, across the street from Lake Gregory.
