Fontana in San Bernardino County, is a well known stop for truckers due to its strategic location with I-10, State Route 210, and I- 15 all passing through or near the city. Transportation is a popular theme in Fontana, where the city annually celebrated cars in a street fair called Cruising Spring Street. The evening event draws thousands out to explore the classic vehicles parked along the "main drag" of town where around 200,000 residents live, work and play. Another
popular tourist attraction is the Auto
Club Speedway on the site of the Kaiser
Steel Mill.
The love of the engine has never been
far away from Fontana. During the 50s
and 60s Fontana had a premier,
regional drag racing course, Mickey
Thompson's Fontana International Dragway
. Car racing was resurrected in 2006 when NASCAR Auto Club Speedway
opened in Fontana.
Fontana shares borders with Rialto
and San Bernardino and sits on the edge
of the San Gabriel and
Jurupa mountain ranges, at an approx.
1,000 - 2,000 foot elevation. In one
part of the city the elevation actually
climbs to around 2,500 feet, so you may
find yourself shifting gears or enjoying
inclines and descents.
While commuters actually make the
trek daily into Los Angeles and Orange
Counties, Fontana residents are
embracing their city more and more,
thanks to parks, arts, recreation, and
plenty of places for exciting car
challenges and sports.
