Ring of Lights is the name of the home (or mansion) decorating competition held in conjunction with the annual Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade. The house contest is spread throughout half a dozen islands that comprise Newport Beach's harbor area, so you'll best see them by water, especially since several islands and communities are gated.

Newport Harbor cruises are available throughout the holiday season just so you can see this marvelous sight, or you can rent a boat such as a Duffy, and go out on your own. You can also see many of the decorated homes by taking strolls and will be in for a special treat in places such as Balboa Island's Bayfront where even daytime viewing can be entertaining.

When the contest commences, signs usually signify competition winners.
