Annual Downtown Davis tree lighting and holiday opening is one of the city's oldest community traditions. Holiday tree lighting in the E Street Plaza, Santa and Mrs. Claus greeting guests, performances by local musical groups and free showings at the historic Varsity Theatre.
Tree Lighting
Once the parade arrives at E Street Plaza, speeches and the lighting of the
holiday tree will begin at 6:30 p.m., led by Mayor Will Arnold and the members
of the Davis City Council.
Highlights
The annual Holiday Tree Lighting takes place at the E Street Plaza after the Children's Parade, an annual Downtown Davis Holiday Celebration. The tree lighting and holiday opening are one of Davis' oldest community traditions. Children's parade, the holiday tree illumination in the E Street Plaza, Santa and Mrs. Claus greeting guests, performances by local musical groups, horse-drawn carriage rides and free showings at the historic Varsity Theatre are usually offered.
Holiday Tree Lighting and Children's Candlelight Parade (at 6 p.m.) begins at the Davis Food Co-op at G and 6th Streets. Local youth and nonprofit groups are encouraged to walk or ride bicycles in the parade. Other downtown activities that evening will include: visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus, free horse-drawn carriage rides, holiday musical entertainment, visits with holiday mascots, collecting toy donations for Toys for Tots and free showings of the classic How the Grinch Stole Christmas" television broadcast and video at the Varsity Theatre at 616 Second Street. New this year, an Ugly Sweater Contest at the Davis Downtown photo booth.
Davis hosts many events throughout the year, including Halloween Treat Street.
