NO. 246 RANCHO SAN ANTONIO (PERALTA GRANT)
Also Listed on the National Register of Historic Places: NPS-66000204
Casa Peralta is the City of San Leandro's (sanleandro.org) historic house museum where three descendants of the original land grant of Rancho San Antonio (ranging from the San Leandro Creek to the current-day City of El Cerrito) lived.
The home was remodeled in 1926 as a grand Spanish-style villa, with hand-painted tiles imported from Spain, that tell the story of Don Quixote. The Casa Peralta is open to the public with free tours of the house and grounds. Since the Casa Peralta is an historic landmark, the interior of the house is not available for use.
About this landmark:
Governor Pablo de Sola, last Spanish governor of California, recognized the forty years' service of Don Luis Maria Peralta by awarding him the 43,000-acre San Antonio Grant on August 3, 1820.
From this point northward, the grant embraced the sites of the cities of San Leandro, Oakland, Alameda, Emeryville, Piedmont, Berkeley, and Albany.
Location: In city park at NW corner of E 14th and Hays Sts, San Leandro (southern boundary of rancho)
