San Joaquin County is on a growth path with new sports and museum structures plus many attractions and events geared toward growth and designed to attract a tourism base. Look toward this county not far from the San Francisco bay area and Sacramento for continued growth in decades to come. The next largest cities with populations over 50,000 in San Joaquin County include Tracy, Lodi and Manteca.

San Joaquin County boasts seven cities and some of the finest opportunities in the state for boating, fishing and camping. The county is one of the most agriculturally rich regions in California and is the number one producer, statewide, of asparagus. Twenty-four thousand acres of county farmland is dedicated to production of this crop. In recent years, the leading crop in the county has been wine grapes, and wineries and vineyards have sprung up from Stockton to Lodi.

The history of San Joaquin County When California became a State of the Union and 27 counties were created on February 18, 1850, San Joaquin County was launched as one of the original counties. Stockton is the County Seat and a Port of Entry. San Joaquin name comes from Joachim and has religious significance. A Spanish lieutenant named Marago in 1813 explored the " Valle de los Tulares. " A little stream that in the Sierra Nevadas that emptied into Buena Vista lake received the name, San Joaquin.
