An Insider's View of Some Favorite
California Places to Eat & Drink
Savannah jokes she never has seen a
sandwich she didn't like. The
popular salesperson loves to eat out
but her passion for dancing keeps
her fit and full of enthusiasm. She
prefers eating out to cooking at
home and often joins friends for a
bite. Savannah probably has eaten at
most of the restaurants and bars in
HB. Just the person we wanted to ask
for her favorite 10 places to munch
and mingle. We realize there are
numerous great places to gulp and
grind in the Century-Old City By The
Sea but here are Savannah's
Sensational Selections:
1. THAI WAVE, 522 Main St. (across
from HB Library Branch) "Drunken Noodles with Roast Duck.
Also love the Yellow Curry"
2.
SUGAR SHACK, 213 1/2/ Main St. "Main Street Omelette (avocado,
mushrooms, onions, sprouts &
cheese). You usually can find this
place by the crowd in front. It has
been a local favorite since 1967 and is still run
by the friendly Turner family."
3.
ZUBIES DRY DOCK, 9059 Adams Ave. "BBQ Chicken Pizza & Halibut. Fun
place. Huge Fascinating Full Wall
Mural of Early HB."
4. GYRO KABOB, 16873 Pacific Coast
Highway (Sunset Beach but close
enough to HB to be listed. It's to
the right of the Sunset Beach P.O.) "Delicious Chicken Gyros, Greek
Salad and incredibly yummy Date
Shakes (recently voted 'Best Date
Shake' in Orange County). Very
Caring and Sweet Owners, Greek Telly
and Deanna."
6. JT'S BAGELS, 5840 Edinger Ave. "Authentic New York-Style bagels.
Try Jalapeno. Good Sandwiches and
more."
7. GONG'S, 6815 Warner Ave. (west of
Big Lots) "Amazing BBQ Spareribs, Kung Pao
Chicken & Fresh Made Soups (i.e.,
Sweet & Sour, Chicken Noodle) Nice
staff have kept it a hit for 33 years!"
8. LAS BARCAS, 21032 Beach Blvd. "Chicken & Beef Burritos--all
homemade with no preservatives and
no lard"
9. COACH'S GOURMET DELI, 221 Main
St. "Boar's Head Oven Gold Turkey
Sandwich & Brooklyn Bomber. Abdo's
one of the nicest hosts around."
