Colonnade Park on the south end of a street known as The Colonnade, is a small but lovely park of 0.2 Acres overlooking Long Beach's Naples Bay. Open 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, the City of Long Beach says it is the southernmost 110 feet of land fill adjacent to Rivo Alto Canal, improved with lawn, palm trees, and benches. Night lighting was added in 2008.
The Colonnade was originally a canal but was transformed by nature after Long Beach's devastating 1933 earthquake when the old wooden seawalls built by the island developers failed. The seawalls were rebuilt between 1937 and 1939 with the current concrete walls. During the rebuilding, The Colonnade Canal was filled in and it was made into road.
