STANFORD - Brentano String Quartet

Brentano String Quartet takes the Lively Arts stage in a broad-ranging program featuring Beethoven's final complete composition: Quartet in F-Major, Op. 135. This late work includes the famed finale that Beethoven inscribed "The Difficult Decision." The program also looks farther back in history, with Renaissance works by English composer Orlando Gibbons and others, as well as forward to the 20th century (with short works including Barber's hallowed "Adagio for Strings") and up to the present day, with works by American composer* Steve Mackey.

SUNOL - Romance on the Rails

Niles Canyon Railway hosts a special event - two Valentine's Day Wine Tasting Trains on Sunday, February 13, 2012; at 2:00pm and 5:00pm. 1940s attire is admired, but not required. Experience the magic of a bygone era as you travel through scenic Niles Canyon on a vintage train from Sunol to Niles and back. Enroute you'll be served six specially-selected wines from the Livermore Valley, paired with hors d'oeuvres. The train features Southern Pacific parlor-lounge car #2979, newly restored to its elegant 1940 appearance. Winner of an Art Deco Society of California preservation award, the car features plush lounge seating and a semi-circular mahogany bar framed by etched glass and mirrors. The car is climate-controlled for your comfort, and attendants will be on board to assist in any way you require during your trip.
