Commemoration of the 1969-71 occupation of Alcatraz by Indians of All Tribes, the sunrise and annual Thanksgiving Day sunrise requires boarding a ferry available from 4:45-6 a.m. The ferries run every 15 minutes and bring people to the island to celebrate the Alcatraz Indigenous People's Sunrise Gathering.
