(10:30 a.m. – 11:20 a.m.) 10% of new car sales in California are electric vehicles (EVs) and that number is expected to skyrocket in the next few years. Have you been thinking about buying an electric vehicle but don’t know whether there is a vehicle that fits your needs? Are you confused about whether to lease or buy, about rebates or car-pool lane usage? Do you have questions about specific EVs and hybrids? Come to this presentation and get the answers from an expert. David Eagle, an Emmy Award-winning TV/Producer, is an early EV adopter and powers his vehicles from his home solar panels. He founded Current EV, the world's first and only licensed auto broker/concierge company devoted exclusively to EVs and hybrids, to help other drivers go electric. Outside you can check out the electric vehicles on display and talk with local EV owners! Sit inside a Tesla Model X and Model 3, or enter a drawing to win a Tesla for a weekend! Solar & Battery Storage (11:30 a.m. -12:20 p.m.) Ready to go solar? Still thinking about it? Want to combine it with battery storage? Find out how to start on a path towards energy independence. Learn about recent changes in how residents will be charged for energy by their utility and why this year might be the best time to go solar. Presented by Dr. Helen Cox, City Sustainability Division Manager Ish Goldstein, an experienced solar and storage professional. Nature Neighbors (12:30 p.m. - 1:15 p.m.) Bobcats, coyotes and mountain lions can be found living in the hillsides surrounding our suburban neighborhoods, golf courses, malls, and parks. Join Cathy Schoonmaker, biologist with the Santa Monica Mountains Fund, to learn about the ecology, behavior and challenges our local wildlife encounter living in this fragmented landscape. Find out what you can do to keep wildlife wild and how you can be a good neighbor to nature. Firescaping (1:20 p.m. -2:00 p.m.) The recent fires highlighted the need to plan our landscape in a way that inhibits the spread of fire. Join City Arborist Garrett Crawford as he explains the weed abatement program, which plants to avoid, and where to use mulch, and shares his observations from the burn areas. Garrett will also be available to discuss individual concerns or issues with trees, landscaping and fire. Healthy Soils Workshops (10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.) Living Soils help plants thrive without pesticides and fertilizers by developing a vigorous ecosystem that nourishes plants with a steady supply of nutrients. Find out how you can regenerate your soil and grow healthier disease- and drought-resistant plants. Michael Wittman, from Blue Sky Biochar, will lead the workshops. One attendee at each workshop will win a free box of biochar. Master Gardener Tour (11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.) Take a tour of the demonstration garden maintained by the Master Gardeners and learn about drought-resistant gardens from Chile, Australia, South Africa, Mediterranean, and California. Meet at the Master Gardeners booth for a short walk to and around the garden.
