Ojai used to offer free Easter Egg Hunts in
the public parks. Several years ago the city faced financial
constraints and red-lined items such as the annual Egg Hunt.

More about the city's budget and reason for cutting the Easter
Egg Hunts: During an Ojai Parks and Recreation Commission
meeting held in 2010, Director Sumersille gave a brief overview
of the Recreation Department, which historically has been
subsidized by the General Fund to offset the cost of operating
facilities and programs. From the City's 2004/05 financial
hardship, the Recreation Department experienced severe
reductions: eliminated 2 ½ positions (Maintenance Worker, Skate
Park Staff, and a number of part time staff reductions);
eliminated the majority of the Teen Program; eliminated Capital
Improvements funds and in-house maintenance; eliminated
community programs (Easter Egg Hunt & Halloween);
eliminated COPS funding for Boxing
Program; reduced Ojai Day funding; reduced operational line
items; reduced skate park maintenance; and increased user fees.
