Free to the community and designed for children the event includes Bounce House,
Pick a Pumpkin patch, games, trick or treat candy and fun for all.
"Superheroes" was the theme of the Free annual Sunset Beach Community Halloween
Celebration. It featured people dressed up as Batman, Superman, Wonder
Woman, Ninja Turtles and more.
Kids and adults, many in themed outfits, met their favorite Superheroes, played
a variety of Carnival-type games, joyfully jumped in a Bounce House, got Free
Pumpkins, Free Candy, Created Crafts, and walked through a Haunted Forest in the
"Fantasy Superhero Land" inside and outside the old Firehouse, now the Nobles
Family Community Center. There was even an Astronaut Space Outfit, signed by
former Huntington Beach resident Buzz Aldrin, the second person to walk on the
Moon!
This is the sixth year the event was mainly sponsored by a friend of Aldrin's,
Sunset Beach resident Tony Nobles and his Nobles Family Foundation, along with
the Community Association and Las Damas, a non-profit that assists many
worthwhile activities in the area.
Nobles, who has worked for years in the medical technology field, must know that
laughter is the best medicine since he (and a lot of dedicated volunteers)
helped develop this event "because I love kids and want to provide fun for them
and their families."
He, his wife and six children, helped create the celebration. "My wife, Rhonda,
worked many hours creating necklaces, my daughter Nissa, a Child Development
Specialist, came up with ideas for the Superhero Games and my son, Alex,
assisted in creating the video and sound," Nobles said.
"To this community, Tony is a combination of Easter Bunny and Santa Claus," said
Bill Anderson, longtime owner of the nearby Anderson Art Gallery. "He, his
foundation, the Sunset Beach Community Association and Las Damas really know how
to throw a fun Halloween Party—and it's all Free."
"This is a delightful, fabulous way to bring the community together," said
Frances Small, a South Carolina native, who lives in Sunset Beach and came to
the event dressed as Supergirl. "We really appreciate the Nobles Family for
making this possible. Our Las Damas group founded it years ago and the Nobles
have transformed it into a First Class Production."
"This is one of the most anticipated events we have each year," said Mike Van
Voorhis, President of the Sunset Beach Community Association. "Everyone really
looks forward to it and it's another significant activity which brings neighbors
together."
It even attracted former Huntington Beach Mayor, now City Council person,
Barbara Delgleize, who had fun helping give away Free Pizza. The celebration
also honored Community Superheroes—the Police and Fire Fighters, which includes
Lifeguards.
"I can't wait to find out what the theme will be for next Halloween," said Eric
Bakker, owner of the nearby Antiques of the Sea. "Thanks to all the folks who
work so hard in making our friendly community unique with fun events like this."
