One of Mammoth Lakes most exciting summer events that typifies
what the mountain destination 8,000 feet in the Sierra Nevada
Mountain range is known and recognized for, the Mammoth Motocross dates
back decades to circa 1968.
Each year motocross racers anticipate the oldest and continuous running motocross in the U.S. They come from around the world, and are the best of the best in motocross. Motocross, a form of motorcycle racing on enclosed, off-road tracks, has been around since the early 1900s. It really didn't take hold in the U.S. till around 1966 and the fever grew. Simi Valley, Calif. was the first place to discover motocross and begin promoting, but the craze for this exciting and challenging form of motorcycle racing spread fast and furious.
Mammoth, where the racing took hold, has seen only modest changes in the track over the years, but has seen some amazing riders introduced. Top racers in the world are known to hone their skills at Mammoth Motocross, even though some come from countries where the sport is much older. Mammoth Motocross is an amateur racing events that includes both women & men and a variety of ages.
