October is generally one of the finest months weather-wise to have a fair in California and places that are typically really hot in the months of May-September enjoy the fall season. It's perfect for the county fair in the desert and Central Valley, especially.

While there are only six or so fairs (out of 58) held in October, the offerings are great for fair-lovers who can't get enough and want to grab the last few moments of rural-themed enjoyment till February. (The months of November, December and January are typically dark while many of the fairgrounds transform into convention centers for holiday boutiques, Halloween screams and other themed events.)
