The avocado fruit was introduced from Mexico to California in the 19th century. 90% of U.S. avocado production is in Southern California, with 60% in San Diego County. While dozens of cultivars are grown, the Hass avocado is today the most common. It produces fruit year-round and accounts for 80% of cultivated avocados in the world. Peru, Chile and Mexico are the avocados exporter to USA.

FALLBROOK:
Fallbrook Avocado Festival
April
Avocado Festival focuses on the central role that the avocado plays in our lives.
The Festival's Farmers Market, Agricultural Area, Avocado Culinary Demonstrations, Guacamole Contest, Avocado Ice Cream, Holy Guaca-Moly, the Art of the Avocado Contest, the Avo 500 Children's Car Race, and the Best Decorated Avocado Contest
are highlights to an avo-day. Agricultural
displays are also found all along the Festival
streets. Most of the area is characterized by rolling hills covered in avocado and citrus orchards. Each spring, Fallbrook hosts the Avocado Festival, which is a showcase of the area's rich agricultural heritage. While olives were a significant crop in Fallbrook's early days, nursery plants account for the greatest revenue numbers today. However, it is the immensely popular avocado that has become Fallbrook's trademark product. fallbrookchamberofcommerce.org
