Follow the journey of the wise men, across the ages and the world. Our fellow pilgrims are a motley group of shepherds and onlookers–Welsh, Huron, Indian, English, Americans of all origins–reveling in the wonder, joy, and peace that the Christmas story brings. Candle-lit Gregorian chant gives way to music by Morales, Gonzalez, Victoria, Poulenc, Sweelinck, and traditional carols, gospel and spirituals. A Chanticleer Christmas is a production seen during the holidays by the very talented Chanticleer, a choral group lauded as the world's reigning male chorus.
The San Francisco based GRAMMY winning ensemble, Chanticleer, performs annually in close to 25 states in the U.S., plus half a dozen countries. They actually perform as much as can fit into their schedule. Their popularity has created great demand for this all male singing group throughout the globe.
Colors of Love (1999) devoted to contemporary choral works won the GRAMMY Award for Best Small Ensemble Performance. Lamentations and Praises won two GRAMMY Awards in 2001. You can purchase these CDs under the Contemporary category of Music on their website, and buy dozens more Christmas, Contemporary, American Classics and Early Music themed titles as CDs shipped or downloaded.
The orchestra of voices recognized for a seamless blend, the 12 performers range from countertenor to bass. Their repertoire is rich with classics from the Renaissance era to jazz, gospel and the annual holiday Christmas favorites.
A Chanticleer Christmas is in high demand from coast-to-coast. In California the performances have been seen and cherished in missions, Walt Disney Concert Hall, churches and fantastic concert halls and venues throughout the state. Chanticleer Christmas is broadcast annually on over 300 affiliated public radio stations nationwide.
Founded in San Francisco by singer and gourmet chef Louis Botto, the group made their debut on June 27, 1978 before a capacity audience at San Francisco's historic Old Mission Dolores. Operated as a non-profit organization, singers are selected at auditions and awarded annual contracts with salaries and benefits. Auditions are held each year in San Francisco.
