When it comes to "Ren" faires, it's not nice to pick favorites as everybody who produces one of these great events has their heart in the right place. With that said, we do have a few faves in California and among them is the festival held at Santa Fe Recreation Dam -- The Original Renaissance Pleasure Faire in Irwindale, Calif. Celebrating its 62nd year in 2025, guests return year after year as new vendors, entertainment and themed days keep it fresh and lively. The family-oriented event is a place where parents take their kids, and then their kids grow up and bring their own children, carrying on memorable traditions.

For seven glorious weekends which include 14 Saturdays & Sundays Ren fans get to romp the hillsides, wear spectacular costumes and pretend they are living out their lives in a 15th-16th century fantasy with different accents, attitudes and no cell phones or computers. If you look around you may see someone slipping into the 21st century mode. Or maybe you'll gaze in the distance and see dreaded power utility poles. Ignore them and live the dream. Bring the kids and teach them about how to have fun. It's a jolly good time for all.
