The Long Beach Dragon Boat Festival is held at Marine Stadium in Long Beach. In addition to hosting one of the largest dragon boat competitions in California, there will be Chinese traditional art demonstrations, Chinese Acrobats, traditional dance, hip hop, music and martial arts performances.

The Dragon Boat Festival takes place at Mother's Beach in Long Beach, offering great food vendors, contests such as ice cream eating, and of course, the exciting and challenging dragon boat races in Marine Stadium. The annual event draws several thousand people over the two day weekend, with families, friends and those who come to watch, in attendance at one of the few such events in the Los Angeles, Orange County area.

If you have never seen dragon boat racing, the event involves a drummer or coxswain seated above the team on each boat, leading them into their strokes with fervor. The boats have colorful checkered patterns on them and are used as such for practice but during the races, the teams attach colorful dragon heads and tails to create a different look in which each boat takes on the appearance of a dragon. It's really fun to see!
