Annual Cowpoke Fall Gathering features an all-star line up of musical acts, authors, poets and performers. This popular event celebrating the art of the spoken word features cowboy poets who sing, yodel and recite in an old-fashioned celebration.
The poets are professional performers with stories and songs about a favorite dog, horse or even a wife. The unique cowboy poetry festival for cowpokes is held at the Blue Goose Fruit Shed, an historic building once serving as a packing shed for the fruit industry. Fruit packing labels frame the walls of the large facility with corrugated steel exterior walls.
Special events are hosted throughout the year, with the Cowpoke Fall Gathering being one of the biggest, attracting folks from around the West. All proceeds are used on the Blue Goose Fruit Shed renovation.
Cowboy Poetry first came to Loomis in 1995 and was such a success, the event grew into a bigger venue. The location and organization that operates it create an entertaining festival with intimate seating and opportunities to meet the artists, purchase their products and make new friends.
Past performers have included:
Sourdough Slim, one of the often appearing hits at the
festival, is also known as Rick Crowder. He combines cowboy singing and yodeling, accompaniment on the
accordion, guitar, ukulele and harmonica and a seasoned gift
for connecting with audiences. He was honored by the Academy
of Western Artists, Will Rogers award for "yodeler of
the year." Slim's success as an entertainer has brought
national recognition with multiple invitations to perform at
the most prestigious venues in North America, including
Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, JHF Center and the National
Cowboy Poetry Gathering. He has six CD's and tours the
country performing at fairs, festivals and cowboy events.
Pat Richardson turned a lifetime of
ranching and rodeo competition into award wining "cowboy
poetry, true stories and outright lies" that entertain
audiences internationally.
