Always held the first weekend in May, this community event is anticipated annually and is a great introduction for visitors seeking to connect with small town Americana. The gateway to Yosemite National Park is Mariposa, a city with much to explore.
The Mariposa Butterfly Festival is a family-friendly event that begins with a parade through the historic downtown community of Mariposa which is Spanish for Butterfly. The festival celebrates the history of this gold rush town and its name. The festival includes local entertainment, a mariachi band, a beer garden, a car show, and butterflies of course!
Children are wowed as they learn about butterflies and their importance to our environment as pollinators.
Butterflies are released to visitors of the festival throughout the event. Come for the festival and stay to visit Yosemite National Park.
The Butterfly Festival often
includes an Art Show, Parade, Contests
and lots of kids wearing butterfly
wing-costumes. There's a butterfly
release, but it can only take place if
it is not raining and only when
temperature is 60° or above.
It is really great fun. Go if you can.
