Point Reyes Seashore's Drakes Beach hosts an annual Sand Castle Contest around Labor Day.  Annual Sand Sculpture Contest  on the Saturday before the week of Labor Day Weekend is a family event that invites the public to bring a picnic and spend the day! Prizes awarded in each of several age and group categories. Free to participants and spectators. Registration begins at 9 a.m. at the Ken Patrick Visitor Center. Judging begins at 12 Noon. Prizes awarded. All ages at this free community event located at Drakes Beach.

Only materials found on Drakes Beach may be incorporated into the structure. Do not pick plants or pull rocks or gravel from the cliffs. Build above the high tide line and away from the cliffs for your safety. The PRNSA bookstore adjacent to the Kenneth C. Patrick Visitor Center will be open from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm on Saturday, August 26, 2023. There will be hot and cold drinks, snacks, sandwiches, books, and gifts for sale.

1 p.m. Junior Ranger Ceremony
2 p.m. Ranger Songs of the Sea Singalong

3:30 p.m. Junior Ranger Ceremony
 

Categories include:

Ages 14 and under

Families

Adult Individuals,

Adult Groups.

Three prizes will be awarded in each of those categories, along with prizes for the sculpture with the most recycled plastic included. Prizes donated by the Point Reyes National Seashore Association.

Dogs are NOT allowed on this designated swimming beach, and there is NO lifeguard on duty.
