Sponsored by the Women's Museum of California, this event celebrates the historic moment when the 19th Amendment to the Constitution was passed in 1920.
New event, Women's Equality Day invites the public to create buttons, make voting sashes, watch historical suffrage re-enactments and learn all about the momentous event that recognized women's right to vote.
Past event went like this:
Dress up in period costume of the day. Meet such historic greats as Susan B. Anthony, Dr. Charlotte Baker, and Alice Paul as they struggled to give women their full rights as citizens.
Meet in the lawn area across from the Organ Pavilion for the Suffrage Rally, followed with the Suffrage Parade through the Prado and Organ Pavilion areas. Enjoy light refreshments while listening to music and speeches, entertainment and more. Join Women's Organizations from around San Diego. Bring your Votes for Women signs and banners. Stay for a lemonade and brownies picnic on the grass and enjoy one of the last summer concerts of the season.
