San Francisco: California Mille's Salute

The annual California Mille, a 1,000-mile journey replicates famed Italian road race, the Mille Miglia. All cars must have been made prior to January 1, 1958 and are hand-selected for the event.

This Vintage Car and Classic Car Tour conceptualized after Italy's famed Mille Miglia (thousand mile), open road race travels rarely-used back roads through Paso Robles, San Miguel and James Dean Memorial where the actor was killed in his Porsche 550 in 1955. Mille Miglia's finishes at Morro Bay State Park. Italian-inspired open-road cruise, California Mille (californiamille.com), which travels 1,000 miles of Central Coast, Sierra and Bay Area roads paying homage to Italy's Mille Miglia. Vintage automobiles that would have qualified for the original event during the years 1927-57 — Bentleys, Alfa Romeos, Aston Martins, Austin Healys, Ferraris and more –will be seen, photographed and admired by those lucky enough to catch a glimpse during the week's exciting event.
