You'd never know by looking at peaceful Seal Beach today that when it was incorporated on October 25, 1915, the seaside destination was destined for wild times with offshore gambling, Prohibition rum-runners, brothels and gambling. Seal Beach has seen a lot of love, joy, beach happiness and sure, some tears. But like any beach city in California, its heart & soul remains tied to the love of its beaches, beautiful pier, charming downtown Main Street and annual traditions in which community members gather and share.

When Seal Beach, the northernmost beach city in Orange County, was founded it was comprised of the area around Anaheim Landing and the original Bayside tract. Within the next year the Joy Zone was opened but eventually was shuttered due to economics.
