Azalea Festival

Annual Azalea Festival includes a Fireworks Display in honor of this event's long history with the community. Fireworks take place on Friday, March 18 at 8 p.m. at South Gate Park, 4900 Southern Ave., South Gate, CA. Free admission.
Azalea history: Several concerned South Gate residents met in the office of the Chamber of Commerce to form the South Gate Beautification Committee on February 25, 1965. With a desire for the City of South Gate to host an event that would instill civic pride the Azalea was adopted by the City Council as South Gate's official flower and the City's first Azalea Festival produced on April 16-17, 1966.
The Azalea Festival grew. Economics and demographics have tugged at the heartstrings of the event planners through the years, but persistence and partnership has kept it going.
