TULARE, CALIF. - Farming is cool if you just learn to find your way around the convention floor and expo halls at the annual mega farm show, World Ag Expo. California is a super power when it comes to producing foods for global appetites. Among the exports that other countries clamor for are almonds, all types of nuts, strawberries, other types of berries, vegetables, meat and more. At the farm show you can talk food and feed, and see cool stuff. Among the anticipated showcase of new farm items is the Top-10 New Products. Useful items include a must-have Tree Shaker for orchards, Lift Gator XTR which attaches to a truck in less than 3 minutes and can lift 1,200 pounds, Jatco PJB-16 Battery Operate Backpack Sprayer, NC Technology Intelligent Wireless Irrigation Control System and more!
The World Ag Expo features more than 1,400 exhibitors on 2.6 million square feet of exhibit space. The latest in farm equipment, chemicals, communications and technology are unveiled at this premier Central Valley event, and as you might expect, weather is the hot-button topic. Water, the lack of it, and drought is causing businesses to worry. What is farming and agriculture without water?
California sets records in production of milk & dairy, strawberries, avocados, tomatoes, grapes, almonds, artichokes and countless food products, courtesy of our year-round sunshine and growing seasons. Water makes it all possible. But, if California's water supply is cut to farmers, many who are already selling off cattle due to lack of grazing land this year, food prices will go up, smaller farms will cut losses by shutting down, and everyone loses.
As California faces the worst drought in decades, the Central Valley is once again ground zero for water supply shortages and economic impacts due to the combination of lack of rain, snow, low reservoir levels, major declines in its groundwater levels and the ongoing shifting of its reliable water supplies to the environment. The World Ag Expo Water Forum was created in 2014 to discuss the topic that's one everyone's mind.
