September 11 - 18 The 2016 World Gold Panning Championships Another Gold Rush is coming to El Dorado County September 11–18, 2016 . The El Dorado County Fairgrounds will look like the gold rush that started in 1848 when James Marshall discovered gold in the tail races of his lumber mill, just a few miles away in Coloma, along the South Fork of the American River. Hundreds of competitors from around the world will join us for a week long competition to see who is the fastest panner. Open to the public and all ages are welcome to compete.
