If you have to choose just one Ritz-Carlton for your Thanksgiving holiday escape, which will you choose? After eating a traditional Thanksgiving Dinner at the Ritz,  launch the Christmas holiday with the spectacular, annual Union Square Macy's Tree Lighting the next day, Friday, at 6 p.m.  Many Christmas shopping sales are geared to this special day.

Union Square Shopping is a mere three-to-four blocks from the hotel and the walk to the stores is filled with colorful fresh flower stands, Cable Cars along Powell Street, and crafts people selling wares curbside on Stockton Street between Post and Sutter.

Department stores such as Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, and Macy's border the square lined with  Emporio, Armani, Tiffany & Co., Vera Wang, Jimmy Choo, Bulgari, Uniqlo and Wilkes Bashford.  Bloomingdale's and Nordstrom are a few blocks further. It makes for a great walk the day after Thanksgiving. Be sure to take your shopping list--most stores will wrap and ship!

Another attraction to put the family, youngsters, kids and yourself in the mood for holiday festivities is the Union Square Ice Rink which opens annually in early November and stays open through mid-January.
