Civic Park: Considered the heart of the community, an estimated 115 annual special events take place at the public facility. Among the events hosted at the downtown community plaza are Thursday Night Market, Winter Wonderland, Renaissance Fair, Food Truck Takeover, car shows and concerts. The popularity of the Winter Wonderland Ice Rink in particular, has caused the city to plan for upgrades in electrical capacity including 14 park lights to improve nighttime visibility and park safety.
The ice skating event, Winter Wonderland, is framed by the historic former Kings County Courthouse designed by W.H. Wilcox and built in 1897 by John Hagerty for about $26,000. It was the center of government for the county until it closed in 1977. Remodeled in the 1980s, it now houses a variety of businesses, including Hanford Chamber of Commerce.
