The City of Huntington Beach and Ice-America have partnered to present
another oceanside ice skating experience like the beloved
Skating by the Sea ice rink you'll
find at Hotel del Coronado in San Diego. Ice-America isn't new to this
genre, having previously built other beach rinks such as Seaside Ice in
Redondo Beach, Calif.
The theme for this Huntington Beach event may sound familiar too, for
those who know about the Winter Wonderland Ice
Rink (hanfordwinterwonderland.com) in Hanford, Calif. While the Orange County beachside rink
utilizes its natural surroundings with a pier setting, the Pacific Ocean
and perfect sunsets, the Kings County experience takes place at Historic
Courthouse Square, complete with warming space rentals to sit and watch
the event with the family. Though HB lacks popular rink amenities,
Duke's and other restaurants are within steps of the seasonal facility,
providing cocktails, beer & wine, and seafood dining.
Enjoy a day or night out with family and friends by skating to the
sounds of crashing waves and following it up by supporting local
downtown restaurants and businesses.
After an initial try-out way back in 2003-2004, a real ice, ice skating
rink returns to Pier Plaza for its second season, having launched
initially in 2021-2022. Early obstacles such as heat & sunshine that
made for a really hard time getting the ice to form and
not melt have been overcome to some extent with new technologies. Ice-America
has a proven track record launching outdoor ice rinks in national &
international locations, as well as producing professional ice shows.
Scott & Azumi Williams of Ice-America formerly operated the beautiful Seaside Ice in Redondo Beach, a Southern California favorite that was graced with their award-winning ice shows and hospitality beyond compare. Watching the figure skating couple work the ice is simply magic.
Surf City Winter Wonderland overlooking the serene sands and blue Pacific during this beloved holiday season (a favorite for tourists throughout the world) puts this Orange County destination on the map for winter fun beyond the waves and surfing. Some holiday ice rinks in California have come and gone, but as of 2022-2023 season, we've uncovered at least 30 outdoor ice rinks throughout the State of California.
