parents just need to lighten up, because they're children are going to get
dirty--even muddy!
Adventure Playground in Berkeley
serves up pint-sized fun in Northern California.
Adventure Playground is a kids attraction operated by the City of Huntington Beach Parks & Recreation department. It opens each summer around June and closes in August. During its run the annual summer event attracts thousands of kids ages six to 12 years old who learn how to saw, hammer, romp in the mud and swing on an old expired tire on a rope.
Just finding the attraction is an adventure. It is located in Central Park, up a cement path, through the eucalyptus trees, past the green lawns, and into the gated complex of dirt & mud fun.
Central Park has been around for over 30 years and Adventure Playground isn't quite as old--but almost. The park is a 350 urban acre oasis in the heart of a city of over 200,000 people.
Adventure Playground includes camp counselors or chaperones that maintain the event and monitor the sessions in which kids can hammer, saw wood, make forts, push themselves around in the shallow water on a raft, climb, jump, etc. Kids can raft on a small pond, navigate a rope bridge, use a cable slide, go down a mud slide and more.
Advised: Bring a spare change of clothing, a plastic bag to put the wet clothes in and close-toed shoes for safety. They won't let kids with sandals play, sorry.
