While southbound travelers can access the White Point Nature Preserve from Western Ave. exiting the 405 Freeway in Los Angeles County, a much better route for northbound drives takes the scenic route along Gaffey Street in San Pedro. It exits the Harbor Freeway where that freeway comes to an end. This route cuts off about 10 minutes of stoplights. It will take you by the Los Angeles Port area, up a hill past Angels Gate Park and Fort MacArthur Museum, then round the bend on Paseo del Mar past Point Fermin Park (on the left) to the entrance (on the right hand side) to the Nature Preserve.
The nature preserve overlooks the Pacific Ocean and is located in a
parcel of land with no community or city designation other than Los Angeles.
The city of L.A. leases the land for almost nothing to operate the preserve,
which is open to the public and doesn't charge any fees for parking or
access.
