SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CALIF.- Mission San Juan Capistrano is believed to be the oldest surviving building in California. The Serra Chapel, at San Juan Capistrano was built in 1782 and is currently recognized as the oldest building.
The buildings and structures have deteriorated through time and have been reinforced to earthquake safety standards. But the charm of this particularly mission is undeniable, considering it sits in the heart of what ranks as the densest county in the nation with a three million population.
