california nutcracker
California Dance Academy's (californiadanceacademy.com) The Nutcracker is a large scale professional production featuring over 60 students alongside professional guest artists in Madrid Theatre in Canoga Park.
California Dance Academy, under the direction of Jennifer and Robbin Shahani, continues to follow a great tradition of Rozann-Zimmerman Ballet Center, which served young dancers with impeccable training for over 50 years.
A Cherished Holiday Tradition Celebrate the holidays with a classic tradition as California Dance Ensemble presents its 15th annual ballet production in 2022 of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker. Starring Luke Csordas as the Nutcracker Cavalier. This production features over 150 performers, including Academy students, pre-professional dancers and professional guest stars. Complete with real snow, magical elements, sword fights and sugar plum fairies, this version of The Nutcracker, under the direction of Jennifer and Robbin Shahani, is inspired by the ballet’s first American choreographer, Willam Christensen.
The California Dance Academy faculty is comprised of teachers with years of experience in teaching and performing, each with specific areas of expertise, bringing a wealth of knowledge to share. Many of California Dance Academy's students have been awarded scholarships to prestigious national training programs such as San Francisco Ballet School, Miami City Ballet, American Ballet Theatre and Pittsburgh Ballet. Others have gone on to college dance programs and/or pursued professional careers.
The curriculum, which draws on the best of R.A.D., Vaganova and Cecchetti techniques, is carefully designed to provide technique and instruction appropriate for the age and physical development of the student. The focus of training is on the excellence, fun, and joy of dance at each level of achievement. The principles, discipline, artistry and mental-physical development acquired through the study of classical ballet provide students with the confidence, focus and grace for success in years to come.
